Not in the suburbs, but there's a Sunday league out of Pressure Billiards in Rogers Park, with 15 players. We're about halfway through our season right now. Message me if you're interested, and I can put you in touch with our league operator to find out when the next league is starting.

14.1 in Chicago

Yeah, the pressure league is the only one I know about up North.

It is run by Ryan Hayes and George Fels is playing in it this session.

Brian Wink had a league going for a while up North and West. It was a Nomad league. No home room. Players just played at their houses or at different rooms. Not sure if it is going right now. He posts as Wink here and he is also on Facebook.

I imagine you know about Illinois Billiard Club in Willow Springs and Red Shoes Billiards in Alsip.

We have some guys coming down to Red Shoes from the northern suburbs. Tom Karabatsos from Des Plaines, Vince Crovetti from up near Waukegan, I think. Bob Treff, all the way from Milwaukee.

Some of the guys who have to travel try to get two games done per trip. Sometimes, some of them just play elsewhere and report their results to us.

I no longer have my home table but I would be happy to put together some type of orginized 14.1 play at shooters in Grayslake. PM if interested. We could also do mini round robin tournaments that would take a month to complete.
BTW, they are adding more to their collection of 9 foot diamonds.

talk to some of the guys that play there on Thursday night league 8ball. A few have been talking about giving it a shot, don't know how many are straight pool players. Just looking to try it some.

My experience

Dennis has it right as always.

I would offer my experience since I am a member of two and have played limited open tournaments at Red SHoes. I was also a member of the Nomad league. You can't say I am not trying.

In no particular order.

First, Red Shoes has the best tables and strongest players, this is pretty much a fact and not opinion.

Ryan's league at Pressures is very well run and with a very good mix of players. The tables are decent Brunswick Metros, but a bit too close to each other.

The IBC is probably the most friendly room/club you can belong to. Jim who own and runs the place is the kindest human being I have meet in a while. He has two leagues, Tuesday and Thursday, with Thursday being for the stronger players. His private room has Anniversary tables and two antique billiard tables. You can also get a great meal from his restaurant during league play.

So it's just a matter of how far you want to travel. I live north my self.

So straight pool is alive and well in the Chicago area.
