Clarksburg

My hometown of Clarksburg, West Virginia, was a great pool
town.Several old fashioned pool rooms. One pocket was
the game in Cburg when most of the rest of the country
hadn't heard of it.
Possibly the best player was Charley Duvalier who later
owned a big pool room in Va. with Weenie Beenie and
still later was called by Billiard Digest " the best player
living in Las Vegas.
But there were many others: the Herrick brothers and
many great players before my time.
All the hustlers & players played there- Mosconi, Wimpy,
Fats.
In my time there were several colorful players: Albert Smith,
Guy Buffy, Leroy"Junior" Berkely, Sarge Gorby, John
" Geronimo" Brill, Charley McGlumphy.
Well, it's dead. One pool room, 2 tables, no action. Geronimo
still plays but that's it. I used to watch 1000 dollar games
in the early 70's. If a hustler came to town, Dead eye, Truck
Drivin Ansel McCoy, John Oakie from Philly, there was
always somebody to play them.
It's all over and it's really depressing.
Just felt like posting this. If any of you ever ran into
any of these characters or ever played in Cburg, please
feel free to add to this post.
Nostalgia is all I have now.

The big pool hall in VA owned by Weenie Beenie was called Jack & Jills. The front door was never locked, not once.

Ever remember meeting Charley Duvalier, Don? Tom Ferry once
told me that he remembered him very well as being Weenie Beenie's
partner.

I probably met everybody who went in there for about 5 years. I was to busy moving snappers to remember many names. Burnt a few brain cells back then.:D
I do remember when the guy got killed by way of a shotgun blast to the head!
