Novus #1 plastic polish test
I took the comment by Black-Balled seriously about Novus polish causing inconsistent throw and watched Dr. Dave's video. I performed the same test on my set that I hadn't cleaned with Novus in a couple weeks. Every time I got 6 inches of throw (foot spot to the far end rail). The was virtually no variation. Then I cleaned them as usual with Novus #1 in the ball polisher. Also as usual I hand buffed them with a clean microfiber cloth. Then I tested again. Once again 6 inches of throw from the first to the last test. Play also was consistent. If I missed it was always my error, not the amount of inherent throw from the shot angle.
Novus doesn't cause erratic amounts of throw if you use it sparingly and hand buff. Aramith leaves a powder build up in the polisher felt that hardens over time (I changed mine before switching from Aramith). Clogged felt is less effective and leaves a powder residue on the balls. Novus doesn't exhibit that issue.
So my results satisfy me that Novus #1 is perfectly fine to use and does an excellent job of cleaning the pool balls.
