Cleaning a pool table???

I own a Valley bar box with Gorina Basalt cloth (comparable to slower Simonis i think). I vaccum it regularly but it is getting a small amount of residue on your hands after u play for a while.. I used to work in a pool hall and they used to use a damp cloth and buffed the cloth... Besides the overpriced can of Chalk off is there any other ways I can clean the goo off??? Is the damp cloth a bad idea??

There's a lot of people, here on this forum, who use a damp cloth and wipe the table down. There's also some who claim that this tends to stretch the cloth. I don't really know. Sorry that I can't be of more help to you. If the cloth is really dirty and stained, I'd try some foam carpet or upholstery cleaner. You may have to replace the cloth anyway, so it can't hurt. If it's not too dirty, use a damp cloth every day and see if that won't clean it up. If you find something that works well, please post it here. Good luck in your quest.

I used to vacuum and then damp rag my table. Now I wipe down the table with a Swiffer Sweeper dry refill towel. This removes more chaulk than I would have thought. Seeing is believing.
