I just recently got a solid black stack leather wrap put on my cue by Tiger. They did a great job and I really like the feel!

But how do I care for it? Clean it? Anyone have any tips? What are your experiences with stack leather wraps?

Thanks,
JW

I had a Tiger Stack Leather Wrap on my last cue and loved it as well.

Sorry I have no cleaning tips, just that feedback on the wrap ;)

Although I never really thought of it that is a good question. My Schuler has a SLW that I really like. I would also like some clue as to maintain. Any makers have any thoughts or suggestions????

Lexol makes very good leather cleaning and conditioning products. You probably don't need to use very often though. Over-saturation is as bad as under-saturation. You should be able to find the products at shoe repair shops, maybe auto supply stores and of course on the Internet. I have a black stack wrap and use the conditioner every few months - just enough to cover the wrap then wipe off the excess. I also use on my car’s leather seats, leather jackets, etc. I’m sure other quality conditioners and cleaners will work equally as well.

We at Tiger Products recommend simply using a "Pledge" type product occasionaly with a "static" cleaning cloth to get the usual dirt and such off.

After some time (years), your wrap may dull or darken. At that time, you can have the wrap re-conditioned by us at Tiger. The Stack Leather Wrap can be re-conditioned 2-3 times before a replacement is needed.

See us at the BCA Team Nationals, APA Team Nationals, Super Billiards Expo or just ship us your cue.

Feel free to visit us at www.tigerproducts.com.

how often do you need to clean your leather wrap? is once a month ok or is that too much? btw i use pledge to clean my wrap.

I would be hesitant to use "Pledge" type products and would stick more to leather cleaners/conditioners. Products like Pledge tend to leave a residue behind which will atrract dirt and oils to it. Just my $.02

I use Saddle Soap to clean and Neatsfoot oil to condition (VERY VERY LIGHT APPLICATION), then buff it out with a microfiber cloth. I've done this twice to my SLW in 2 years and it still looks new. Other than that, I just keep a microfiber cloth in my case and wipe down the entire cue, shaft, butt and especially wrap, every time I put it away. Just keep it reasonable clean by wiping it after each use and there isn't much needed maintenance.

edit here... when I was in South Padre, a player traded a Titlist Conversion cue in that Jerico had done back in 1990. It had a stacked leather wrap on it (yeah, I know, according to most, that was before stacked leather wraps existed, right... NOT!) and it was still in EXCELLENT condition. Jerry was happy to get the cue back after 16 years. I shot a few balls with it and tried to buy it off of him, but he wanted to keep it. Guess it was unusual to get a cue back that you did a conversion on after 16 years... sweet hitting little ride with an old growth shaft on it that was still perfectly straight. The player had used it very little, but still, stack leather lasting 16 years is quite a testimony to the durability of a good SLW.

Bob

How about beeswax or butcher's wax? Or I would think any type of leather protectant would do? You just want to have some type of protectant on there to keep it from drying out and or absorbing moisture correct? I recently acquired a gorgeous Diveney cue with a beautiful stacked leather wrap. And I'm wondering what to use as well. Should I try the pledge? Although it should be noted that pledge has different formulas. I'm assuming you want to look for the one with the wax in it?

Haha. Almost 15 years later! And my first post in almost just as long. That's what having kids will do to you. Had to take a break for a while. But I played with a buddy the other night and really had a great time. Want to start playing more.
