Cleaning Irish Linen Wraps

Cleaning wrap

In the past, i have taken a some spray starch and lightly dusted a very soft cotton t-shirt with it...not heavily, but just slightly damp. (I bought a pack of those cheap cotton Hanes t-shirts and use them specifically for this.)

Then I twist around the wrap going with the direction it is wound (not top to bottom). My cue has a very soft, courtland type linen and cleaning it in this manner has kept it feeling like new and very clean.

I'm not sure how this would work with linen that has been coated, waxed or sealed in some fashion.

Thank you for the reply marknyc. When I look at the wrap it is hard to tell the direction the wrap is wound. Is there an easier way tell this. I will try the starch, I just don't want to wipe it with anything that would make it come off.

Much depends on who installed the wrap. I dont think that I would consider cleaning and pressing Chinese built cues. Almost, if not all, Chinese cues wraps are tucked instead of being pegged and the glue they use does not hold very well. If you try cleaning one then chances are good you will also be rewrapping it. I probably rewrap 15 or 20 foreign cues for every one American cue because of the wrap coming loose.

I just meant to wipe in a twisting motion instead of scrubbing up and down from top of the wrap area to the bottom...if that makes sense.

I have tried cleaning my cue with a damp cloth in a circular motion. After several month, the wrap becomes hairy.

I have had very good luck with a bounce dryer sheet just running it up and down the wrap also in a spiral motion, Then a shot glass to smooth any frizzy areas. Just my .02

What is the best way to clean an Irish Linen wrap.

Hello, how you clean a wrap will depend on the color of the wrap. Many times for very lightly colored wraps such as, White, White with green speck or any other light colors you can try the following procedure. I have very good results with a Carpet Spot remover called Folex. If the wrap is very Very stained and a light color I recommend spraying on Folex and GENTALLY scrub the soiled areas in a circular motion with a soft tooth brush. You may have to apply this spot reomver more than once depending on the stains. With this product you do not have to rinse the wrap as it dries the stains will disappear. The wrap will then have to be pressed.
