Cleaning the balls???

Well I just picked my new set of Aramiths up today (finally) and I'm already pleased with how well they play. I've been playing for nearly two years now and this is my first set of balls. I was just wondering what the proper method is toward cleaning/maintaining these balls so that they continue to play well in the future?

All help/tips would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks ahead of time,

Sniper,

I beleive there's already a thread on this. I can't remember the exact title of the thread but as I remember it, there were some pretty good posts on how to clean balls (billiard balls).

There was a very long post about this, but a little controversial! Windex is not a good thing to use. Just wipe them clean with a towel as often as you feel necessary and that should do it. Keep your table clean all the time and don't use hand chalk or talc and that will help also!

Give this a "spin":

Try this:

Lay a 20"X20" doubled piece of new terry cloth towel on a flat piece of plywood. Now, mount an old wooden rack to the plywood over the towel (use "L" brackets on the outside of the rack, ensuring the screws do not protrude through to the area where the balls will be.)

When the balls need cleaning, lay all 15 inside the rack and with a cheap $25 electric auto buffer, using a clean lambswool pad, buff the balls. The spinning of the buffer pad will move the balls around inside the rack, allowing all sides to get "the treatment."

Refrain from using any chemical cleaners or polish.

It works...I set this up for a poolroom at home (in AZ) and they use it to this day with great results.

Sure...it's a little like something one would see on a "McGyver" rerun but it's cheaper and utilizes the same principals as those expensive ball washers/cleaners.

Great idea Ken! You should take it to the patent office. It's so simple but makes a lot of sense. Way to go!

I'm pleased to see this topic being discussed. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

whats wrong with windex??? It makes the balls nice and shiny.

It has chemical that eats the finish and before you know it, your balls will not be buffable and smooth. Kind of a sticky, unpolished feel! I've seen it before at a pool hall I used to work at! The "bartenders" thought they knew what they were doing and tried to help out, but ended up costing the owner 15 sets of Super Aramith balls.

Thanks to everyone for the help, I appreciate it.

At the moment it looks like wiping them clean with a towel and keeping my table clean is the easiest most convenient option.
How about soap and warm water, just make sure I rinse the balls thoroughly....would that work?

RAZOR, you beat me to it. The only reason pool rooms don't run them through dishwashers is because the don't have ready access to a dishwasher. I do the same thing and it has done no harm in the 4 years I have been doing it.
