Cleaning Wrap's

If i where to acquire a older classic cue, What is the BEST technique for cleaning old linen wrap's without ruining them? I would not want to refinish,
re-wrap the cue due to its age,value, ect....

Also, any good techniques for bringing back an old finish job, without losing its originality?

Also would like to hear how cue makers are removing small dents in the cue
without having to re-finish the cue afterwords, If possible?
