Clearing the mind before a match.

What does everyone do to clear your mind from the daily grind?
Listening to music is my go to.
I normally listen to the Rad the movie sound track.

Does that work? I think it's interesting how players of any sport find the fine line between clear mind and focus. I guess a clear mind is required before focus can happen. I'm with you, music is my mind clear. Something between Three Dog Night and Tone Loc. I spent my young adult years in the disco era. So, I'm a terrible judge of good music.

Friend of mine was telling me about a guy from our high skool that is some sort of child welfare supervisor.

Apparently dthe guy takes a week off every so often and does heroin.

Never tried it myself, but shit. If it can take a man through what that guy must see...

No, but seriously...'its just a game, man. Some sticks and some balls"...

Get out there and have fun. And make some people suffer, along the way.

Yes, yes, yes.

I was thinking maybe some good weed, heroin is a little out of my league! lol

I sing two songs in Russian
Wasted days and wasted nights....Freddy Fender
Werewolves of London......Warren Zevon
If that goes well I sing Enter Sandman....Metallica....In French and Chinese.

I don't speak Russian,French or Chinese, and it sounds terrible, but it works.
It clears my head and sometimes I can make more than one in a row.
If I dog it, I air guitar Jeff Beck and SRV , have a Martini and go catch the morning tide.

Rad as in the awesome 80s bmx movie with ass sliding and bike dancing? It’s been too long since I’ve watched that.

Just learn to mentally "flip the switch."

I'd say the best way to do that is to gamble for something once in a while. Each time, you have to somehow pay attention...or pay opponent. After a few losses, your subconscious mind will figure out a way to get you to focus more on playing.

Another way is when you're practicing is to then leave the practice procedures and pretend you've entered a competition. When you miss, you walk back to your seat and watch your pretend opponent runout. Then rack again, loser, and this time pay attention! That works if practiced, too.
For me, it did, anyway.

Positive affirmations like...”I’m a mean mother——er and I’m going to beat the $#it out of you”...or...”Jesus loves me and he’s going to help me ream your @ss”...I say them and others over and over...

I second the choice on some fine herbal focus! But must be high in CBDs and on the low end of THC. this ratio can bring clarity and focus very helpful but dont over do it or too much will cloud you thoughts.
Music (blues or metal) and a thermos full of strong tea has been my go to more often than none.

'Rad' is awesome! One of my favorite movies, and I would hate to know how many times I have watched it.

I'm kind of lucky because shutting my mind off from work is EASY. By the time I get home, I have no idea what I did that day. I also have an hour drive home, and then go straight to pool. The rush to get there on time, and the alone time in my truck helps.

Once I'm at the pool hall I shoot some practice games and try to pick one or two things that I'm less confident in that night. I focus on those things, and try to let the rest just be instincts. That gives me a helping of clear mind with a side of focus, and seems to work.

Great, now I'm hungry.

gotta love it.......

The pool players steroids.............

Booze, pot, heroin, coke, etc.

Mine is a cigar.

How come pool has a bad image? I just don't get it............

"When you're carrying your cue sticks about to play a big match, the idea is to remain calm. The way I do it, is to think of something pleasant. A fun party. A moment of triumph. A sexual encounter. I actually project myself to that place. A little transcendental meditation if you will. The trick is to imagine every little detail. Anything to keep your mind off the fact that you're going to lose allot of money and be very pissed off for a very long time if you blow the game"
