Cloth at Turning Stone

I couldn't make it to Turning Stone, unfortunately, but I hear people liked the new cloth they were using there. It looks sharp in photos, too, a little deeper shade than Electric Blue, I guess. Any more opinions from spectators or those who got to play on it?

I was about an hour's drive away from the tourney on Sunday, busy picking up a pool table and hauling it 200 miles in a rusty, hot-running old truck. Anyway, I might consider trying out that Tournament Blue Simonis on it, the table that is, though it might look OK on the '91 Mazda, too. :p

I can tell you as both a spectator and someone who got to hit a few balls on it that I like it better than the standard green felt but only slightly.
Slightly better to play on that is and significantly better to view matches on. Very easy on the eyes.

Koop, thanks. Might be worth trying out. Then again, I guess your eyes could get used to it and you might feel a little off when you went out to the ph. But I'm usually a little off when I go there.

Greg Sullivan of Diamond Tables told me that the color of the Simonis cloth is called "TOUR BLUE." After studies were conducted on this hue of blue, it was determined that this was the BEST on one's eyes to see clearly. Tennis venues are going to TOUR BLUE in their color schemes, too.

BTW, I asked Greg Sullivan about the tighter pockets at the Joss Tour Season Finale, and he said that the measurements were a little bit less tha 4-1/2 inches. Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich said that he didn't see very many players running more than 2 or 3 racks. The equipment was solid, and the caliber of play was excellent. There wasn't too much luck or slop at this tournament at all. It came down to who had the best game. In 9-ball, known to be a luck game, that's a good thing and very refreshing. :)

Good to know, JAM. In fact, Simonis said yesterday they'd send me a swatch of it and that it wasn't shown on their Web site because they've only recently begun selling it. It's available now in 860, I'm told.

So maybe we should all get used to tighter tables, too? I hit some last night, for a change, on one that's maybe 4.25 or a tad tighter. Ordinary table next to me looked like a disgrace after a while!

Hey JAM,

Mike Webb let me hit a few balls with one of his cues and tight doesn't begin to describe those pockets. I think it is great and really makes you appreciate how good these players really are.
I agree with you Travis that tighter pockets are the way to go and you really can't go wrong with that Tour Blue color cloth.
