Can anyone provide recommendations on desktop cnc mills/routers for cutting inlays? Ones to avoid or units you like. Heck, just any info or experiences would be a great start!

I can build you a desktop 4 Axis CNC Inlay Machine for $4500. The only down fall is that I can't provide any training. I am not good enough at using it to teach anyone and My son has no desire to teach anyone how to use it as he is 21 and has near Zero patience. The machine works great but at this time I can only provide the machine, all hardware and software, but no other instructions. Hopefull we will put a video together in a few months.
See my shop tour for a picture of mine.

How much does that machine cost Sheldon, you know?

I have an earlier model of theirs that I paid $11K for. I'm not sure what the new one costs.
Email or call them, and I'm sure they will give you any details you could want. Nice guys to deal with.

Here is a CNC machine I put in about a year ago. It's not quite what I would call desktop though :D

Unless you have about 200 large laying around this one is probably not for you ;)

Before anyone makes a comment about that being a big mill I though that I might add that it is not my big mill. This is. That is me running it.

sneakout, I build several types of cnc machines. I have a BENCH TOP TYPE CNC, 4 AXES, that just might be what you need. It sells for $14,500.00, includes training, runs with bob-cad-17, weighs in at about 450LBS, and has 31" of Y travel, 4" of X travel, and 4" of Z travel, and the W-rotation is 360, either direction and over laps rotation.
This machine comes with square rails and lineir bearings, and we use a NSK, spindal, that runs up to 40,000 RPM.
I also, furninsh the computer, key board, monitor, and bob-cad.
We also offer lease financing if needed?
come down for training and we put you up in one of our guess homes, here at our place. Kick in on the grub, and we off and running.

I thought he was inlaying his friggen' table :D

You on crack bud? :D
FYI, that's one of Mr.Tuckers dedicated machines in his shop. Uses it to slice ring billets 0.015" and does a great job... big difference what a dedicated machine does... can't wait to see pics of what tp/ferrule set Mr.Tucker has :D :D :D

The steady rest is something that I'd like to have...
That would be a great travel lathe set up for doing quick repairs on tournaments... :D
But the machine doesn't look like it would have enough torque in it for cue work... :(
