cnc, mach, and the vfd

I have most of this figured out, but I'd thought I'd put this out there. I have a 5hp vfd that i'll be using for my table saw.

My question is this. With ramp decel and remote stop enabled in the VFD parameters, will M05 issue a stop order to the VFD and cause it to ramp down or simply decel normally?

With my VFD's , stop and remote stop, stops the motor at the programed deceleration rate.
So if it is a 10 second break to rest, then it always takes 10 seconds to stop.
I have not found a way to make it stop faster for an emergency stop situation.

Set decel ramp to 0.1 and enable remote stop. Use NC (OH SH**) button and use NC=run. Hitting the button will open the circuit and trigger stop.

A breaking resistor would probably be the best solution.

From what I've read the resistor breaking should only be used in a real emergency. If there is any inertia in the spinning shaft something can break.

M5 will only turn off the spindle if set up correctly. If you want to change the rate that the motor stops it will all be left to the setup of your VFD. Sometimes you can add an external braking resistor to the VFD to help stop quicker.
