I have a question about CNC routers. The machine I have was built by Blud. It is a 4 spindle gantry system. Its a solid piece of machinery in every way except for the noise. When you fire this thing up, you'd better hold on. The four spindles are run by a single baldor motor. Ive tried to isolate just one spindle as thats all I need for my applications but Still have the loud motor noise. Can anyone suggest a quieter setup that I could mount to this in place of one of the spindles. This is way to much of a production machine for my uses. I just want something that has good accuracy without having to seatbelt myself in to use. Thanks for any suggestions.

NSK spindle w/a variable speed motor.
But, with your saw setup, I think you stick with that one or find a quieter motor.
You can't really wrap the motor in foam b/c it gets hot.
Even 1/2" collet router make so much noise it gets ridiculous.
Makita makes some quieter routers but most scream .

The nsk is the way to go but starp yourself in when you see the price. Call him up I am sure he would sell you an nsk.
 
Build a box around the whole machine ? It will quiet the noise somewhat, maybe to the point of being tolerable. Just an idea.

I use my dillon electronic head set from my shooting and IDPA days, they hold all noise below like 70 db but you still can hear everything, no blanking of sound. That way if you need to shoot a pain in the @$# customer in the shop, it wont damage the ears.:)

I use to wear the expandable ear plugs, but I wear a pair of shooting ear muffs now days, due to the noise from My routers. Before I started wearing those, the router I was using was screaming so loud that I was having problems with My ears 3 or 4 times a year, and would have to see My doctor as a result. Not sure why, but for some reason the plugs didn't help My problem, but they did cut down on the noise. Probably just My ears that were sensitive to the expansion of the the plugs or something. I had much better luck last year with the ear Muffs.
