not all quilted maple have loose leaf figure. some look like tiger maple.

This is interesting. I always thought "quilting" was a visual effect in the maple. This looks like high quality tiger maple to me. I'm interested to hear more.
The cue's wood combination is stellar by the way.
thanks for your kind words. even i, at first, thought and even confirmed the wood from the cuemaker. good thing you mentioned sir... here's how... below is a big piece of quilted maple wood:
the wood figure in the handle of the cue above was taken from the part which may not look like the common figure we know about quilted maple, but it doesn't make the handle less of a quilted maple, since it is indeed - quilted maple.
