COCOBOLO - two shafts

yup, everyone I have spoken to about you calls you "Jackie"... btw - I was told to ask you about "johnny drain-o"... :p

Lots of stories about John Drain. I remember sitting in the pool room (Golden Cue) when I was 14 in a trance watching him. Johnny was 17, tall and thin, about 6'1", blond already thinning hair, long fingers, and running 250 balls at a time. It was like he was playing a strativarius - he was playing with a Martin cue - just beautiful to watch. Players from out of town would come to the room, he would beat everyone one of them lawdie dawdie. And they all came back since he was always a gentleman, heart bigger than Texas. When I was 15 he was my "cornerman" and I beat a couple of players for a $100 a game. Why do you think he got his name Johnny DRAIN-O ---- makes perfect sense after you watch him play. I miss him.

I know where the Martin cue went initially (or atleast think I do). In your travels have you heard who has it now? And thanks for the referral.

Hey Jack-

About 3 or 4 years ago - I had heard that one of the Glenns had that cue. I run into him from time to time, I will ask him. Whether he has it or not, he may well know.

Thinking about Johnny D and how good he played and how much better he would have got over the years - always makes me feel a little sad. He was destined to become a champion.

Thanks - probably Denny's collection. And yeh, it would have been something to see how far he would have taken his talent. Makes me sad too but I had a good time thinking about him and the memories yesterday.
