Has anyone here ever used one of those slate lifts that picks up the slate from the side picked using a drill to raise it up, just wanted to know if it was worth the money and did it really work.
thanks gary

yes, no. yes it works no its not wotrh it. I myself just lift it up and push a 2x4 under the lip with my belly works way easier and you can do it yourself.

I lift Diamond 9ft one piece slates and place boards under them to install the cloth....why would anyone need a device to lift a 7ft Valley bar slate is beyond my understanding:eek:

I'm not a mechanic but I had my 14 Valleys (I now have 14 Diamonds) covered by a man that worked solo. He used one to lift the slate then placed a pair of carriers with ~ 1-inch roller bearings on the cross beams. He let the slate down on the bearings which allow him to move the slate around. When rotated 90 degrees it allowed him clear access to the mechanisms, troughs and casting bolts and to clean out the box.

My point is that it worked but only in conjunction with the roller bearings. Without the bearings keep using 4x4s or 2x4s.

I have one of these jacks from Nortech. I didn't like the ball bearing system. I would lift the slate and insert my 2x4's. This lift is noisy and would irritate patrons. There's always a guy in the bar asking questions, he would be my helper. I would buy him a beer and ask him to insert and remove the crossmembers

Yeah, we always have some helpers around. They're even better for helping the girls lift or tap a keg when I'm not around

slate lift

Ok guys thanks for the advise, but i think im gonna order one just for a back up, the roller bearings to me would work good for turning the slate around to glue the other side. why would you need a lift, the slate is pretty heavy and if you damage it you own it. been covering tables for 20 years and never broke a slate yet and don't want too. thanks
