Anyone play with a coker cue?
How do they play, Im looking for a stiff cue (SW) style hit
Is the wood aged the RIGHT way, is he buying parts?
ect ect any info woud be great!

Coker is definitely a stiff hit. There's no doubt about that. I have my opinions and as a result, I would steer away from Coker. It depends on what you're looking for. If you want someone who makes a stiff hitting cue that is top notch and he makes virtually every part in his own shop (except the rubber bumper) try Mottey or White. However, you'll pay for the difference. Tom Coker is agood cue maker, sure. But I wouldn't put him in the same class as the Mottey shop, hence the difference in price.

well maybe it's personal preference...but i thought White cues seem to hit a bit soft. It's def not as hard hitting as a SW or nowehre near it.

BUT, workmanship and quality wise...it's def way up there :D

What does BUYING PARTS Mean?
He is wondering if the maker buys his parts from another maker or company.
Such as, pointed forearms/sleeves, pre-inlayed pieces, etc.

Makers do that?

About Gilbert Cues

My own true story. I bought a Gilbert SW style 2-3years ago..thought it would play great.honestly.i hated hated hated hated the way it plays. Supposedly it was because it was TOO stiff..dunno if thats what it really was, it just never feltright with me.

Recently bought a bender on ebay..and supposedly they hit like SW cuz of the bender, kersenbroke, and franklin link.. and let me tell u that bender plays sweet.

So if the Bender is suppose to play like a SW..then the Gilbert most certainly doesnt..and vice versa of course. Of course this could be a one time issue thing with my gilbert cue (vs other gilbert cues)..but who knows.just giving in my 2 cents.

BTW, coker cues look great for the money )(never seen one up close)..the only reason why i didnt buy it was because except for a rare few..most cues depreciate A LOT when u buy them (coker included).so thats another reason i went to a bender..

depending on ur budget u might as well put a little more in for a cue from the established guys like scruggs, and mottey. There are some scruggs that can be had at slightly higher than coker prices.

As well, there is a really hot mottey on ebay right now. ebony on ebony with hoppe ring for about 1100. If i iddint juts buy the bender i would dewfinitely bid on that.

Hi TheFish,

Am I correct in assuming you're talking about the Bender you bought from me? If so, I'm glad you're enjoying it so much.

Best regards,
Steve

Yes..i like very much.hits great..a slight slight wobble on one of teh shafts..but i cant complain..my aim is much worse than the wobble:)

buy my skip! LOL

I have owned Tad,black,JW,Sw,TS, I have been looking for a good deal on a bender but the prices are really up there! i guess the days of the 500.00 hoppe butt blacks are gone :( Thats the problem too me, i cant stand having to pay 1000+ for a cue. I know Whaa Whaa :D
Now the bender is a good suggestion. And im trying to find a deal on one now. I will put out a plug (If you like the Sw style cue) for Bobby hunter's cues. Also like the motty, but like the wood on wood joints. Anyone need a 2 week buy back loan on tad or SW at 700? Guess not them days are gone too! ;)

Anyone with a good shape Bender thats not asking over sea's prices give me a pm.

Sorry but the guy has like 94% feedback and im not big on shooting 1200+ over seas.

...<SNIP>...

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I have a quick question for you: How stiff was your Gilbert cue's hit compared to a Schon? I prefer the piloted-SS joint's stiff hit, and I'm in the middle of discussions with A.Gilbert agent Jeff regarding my next cue...

If you consider the Schon a stiff hitting cue, then i would bet even money the Gilbert Is going to feel stiffer to you.

Was definitely stiff.but weirdly enough i never got good feedback off the hit. Weird right? It could be the taper of the shafts or the thickness.they were at 13 i think. But the biggest prob was defiitely the feel /feedback..the feeling of a hit nevr felt good..the best hit i got so far was a nicer huebler wood to wood joint that had a nice "thunk" (not the sound of a screwed up ferrule) everytime it hit..taht was stiff.and great feedback..

What Skip?
