Sarah,

I am not sure if I remember correctly, but I thought that I read that you were in college recently. Do you intend to finish up with your degeree to have something to fall back on??
Just curious, it is so hard to make a living at this game and it can be so tough on the "Professional Player".

I wish you all the best.

Joe

Hi Joe.

Yes, I did finish two years of college in less than two years. I loved being in college and learning but playing in my first pro tournament during my second year got me thinking about how important it was to follow my dreams. I do plan to go back because you are definitely right, it is a very hard life. I have alot to fall back on now just for finishing as much as I did but definitely need to get the rest finished sometime in the near future. I am not trying to preach that people shouldn't finish school because it is very important. I just feel that everyone deserves the right to do what makes them happy. Happiness and achieving a goal/dream is more important than following the expectations of others. Well...hope that answered it for you. Are you going to make it to the DCC or Music City Open?

Take care
Sarah

Sarah,

Thanks for the reply. I just know how important an education is as well. I would hope to encourage others to stay in school as well. Following your dreams is something that few get the chance to do and I wish you the very best.
I will be at the DCC the first couple of days but not playing though. I will say hello if I see you there.

Best Wishes,

Sarah,

Didn't Gerda give up the game to go back to school? Here she is one of the top 8 or 10 women in the game and evidently she can't make money at it and saw the writing on the wall.

Go back even if you only take one or two subjects a semester. You wilol be surprised at how fast those hours add up. Might even try and become a pharmacist. They start at 80K when they get out of school and Florida is begging for them. You can move down here, work as a pharmacist part time, and follow your dream on the pool table at the same time. It is nice clean easy work and all you have to do is be able to count. 10 pills for you mam - $62.50. 8 pills for you sir - $64.00.

Now if you are considering the teaching profession then I can understand your reluctance at returning to school. The pool halls offer a safer environment.

I do believe Gerda went back to school but I am not sure. She didn't miss any tournaments last year.

I'm not sure but I feel like I own a pharmacy already as much as I am there for diabetes supplies. At least if I went to school to be a pharmacist I could work there.

I was going to school to get a business degree hoping to one day open my own business. I also have interest in design. Something will happen and I will decide what I would like to do. You never know...maybe pool will change. Or maybe somehow I can reach the Jeanette level.

Joe, I will see you at DCC.

Sarah

As least by becoming a pharmacist you're not stuck, literally stuck with starting your own business unlike if you're a chiropractor. What a mistake that was.

kokopuffs...I'm sorry you are stuck in a business you don't like. Maybe since you are unhappy it would be a time to try something you know you would love to do. Just an idea.

Although the knowledge is invaluable, I l left the chiropractic profession some years back nonetheless. Struggling to make it was overwhelming.

What I meant to say is that banks are very hesitant to lend money to chiros to start a practice; too many have failed. So they're stuck with starting they're own business with what little resources they have, something that not all chiros are adept at. Pharmacists can go into sales, research, work for hospitals. At least they have relevant alternatives.

Sorry to hear that. It's strange how some really ridiculous businesses can stay afloat and others that are practical cannot. I have no intention of becoming a pharmacist. I'm not really sure what I would like to do. I have always wanted to own my own pool room and I have alot of knowledge in that area. It is hard for me to start a pool room right now because of time and money. Plus I am pretty young. Maybe in the future.

Sarah,

When that article about you and Josh Brothers came out in BD last year I was one of those who chided you for quitting school. I was wrong. I don't think you will regret following your dream. You may have regretted it if you didn't though.

College will still be there when you're ready. I went back to school at 35 :)

You go girl :D

Thanks Wally. I am glad that you see me in a different light now. When that article came out I was afraid that it sounded like I hadn't finished high school and was ruining my life. I am glad that has changed and I am glad that is not true. Thanks for the support!

Take care.
