Coming up from the depths in austin, tx.

Not that I was a particularly active poster on here, but I did spend a considerable amount of time perusing the forum and posting sparingly. Well, until a few months back when life really took over and I didn't have the time for much pool, or scanning the forum. I moved from MI to TX, and now feel like it's time to break the cues out again. Only one problem... Austin is a huge place and I can't seem to find a good place to just go and shoot.

Granted, I've only been here 2 days, and i've only headed downtown so far (I'm about a 5 minute drive from 6th street). But does anyone know of good bars where you can go throw quarters up on the table and challenge? Or a GOOD pool hall? I spent about 10 minutes shooting at buffalo billiards, just to get out of the apartment the first day I got here, and i was very disappointed in it. Took the balls back and left. Also, where are the weekly tournaments around here? And any suggestions on leagues? Right now I'm a little tight for cash, BUT once I get working (once I find a job that is lol) Joining a good pool league is a priority.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The Grand is about 10 mins away from you I think, and Clicks on mopac should be kinda close. Round Rock has G-Cue that hosts the TX Open. I think the name may have changed though.

As you have learned Buffalo is not a pool hall, despite the name.

Not sure about tourneys.

Good Luck

The Grand which is close to downtown has tournaments at 730 on Thursday evenings, it's usually a small turn out but there are a lot of good players and nice people to meet there. They also have one at Saturdays but I dont remember the time. Up norht at Skinny Bobs there is a weekly tournament on Sundays at 230pm that gets a pretty good turns out. Both of those tournaments are played on 9fts. Sunday evenings there used to be a tournament at Slick WIllies on south Lamar (also clost to downtown) at 8pm or 830. I'm not sure if they are still running it though. If you want barbox (7ft tables) tournaments, go to SHenanigans on Pond Springs road. They have one at 730 (i think) on Friday (9ball) and Saturday (8ball) and its only $5 to play.

Thanks for the replies! I lived in northern michigan so we didn't get much time on the big tracks, although i'm not adverse to playing on them, i'd be a C player i'm sure. I did a little research online and barfly's showed up too. Anybody ever shot there?
