Complete Tournament Schedule?

I live in Erie, PA and am interested in attending a few "local" tournaments (anything where I can see "pretty darn good pool"), particularly if some players I see on ESPN from time to time (men or women) show up and play.

By "local" I mean within about a 2.5 hour drive.

I've been directed to this site (AZ, I mean) and others to build a personal "schedule" of events. But doing so leaves a lot to be desired. Or, very little, in fact: is there a site that simply lists good tournaments? I'd rather not have to visit five or six different sites and all the work that requires: filtering out everything outside of OH/PA/NY, filtering out the little-time events unlikely to attract anyone but the local guys, etc.

To those who go to tournaments, what do you do? Or have I overlooked some awesome site that lists these schedules? And, failing the availability of such a site, I wonder if this site (or some people on the forum) might not be interested in working on one with me, perhaps in coordination with this site?

NW PA is dry

I'm from Warren -- which is much smaller than Erie, but in the same very general area. As for tournaments -- the closest "major" tournament that you might be interested in would be a tour stop in Youngstown, OH. I think the Viking cues tour stopped there last year. If you're looking for the small, weekly tournament, which it doesn't sound like you are, then I would check out http://www.uspapool.com -- it's a very comprehensive site that breaks down pool halls by county. Let me know if you hear of anything going on in or around Erie, though, I would love to hear about it. I'm going to college now in Indiana, PA which is 2 hrs south of Warren. There are some smaller tournaments here in Indiana, Johnstown, and a little further away in Pittsburgh.

In my area, many tournaments which are listed [wherever] have incorrect listings.

Tournaments come and go. People who start/run tournaments are not good at communicating and thus many players do not know about some tournaments.

So far as the internet, many people who run tournaments in my area do not know how to turn on a computer, let alone list their tournament on a web site.

But sometimes someone will come along and make a list of all tournaments in my area. Then this is good for about 6 months.

The best way to find out about *all* tournaments in your area is to search the internet and look at publications (regional) which list pool tournaments for your area. Then go to these tournaments and ask several of the players if they know of other tournaments in the area. Ask where and when. Then go to these tournaments and again ask several players if they know about other tournaments, etc. Eventually you will learn about all tournaments.

Sometimes players will go to just one tournament and not know about other tournaments. Sometimes people who run weekly tournaments will not tell you about other tournaments because they don't want you going anywhere else.

So far as tournaments in bars, if you call and talk to the morning bartender, you are guaranteed to get incorrect information. The only bartender who will give you accurate information about a tournament is the bartender who works when the tournament is held.

And your best source for finding out about new tournaments is word of mouth. Get to know the other players and you the be connected to the "word of mouth" newsletter.

Happy Hunting!

Quite honestly, Billy_Bob, that'd take far too much of my time. I want to go to a few tournaments per year. I don't want to build up a rapport with players and all that. Just want to say "hey, look, next month I can go to one in Pittsburgh!" and go.

Thanks for the suggestions and ideas. I guess there's really nothing out there for me.

The Green Felt, a billiard newsletter for the Wichita area, and tha last page of it was my tournament page, listing all tounaments, local, regional, and special tournaments in our area. My tournament page was loaded into the website for 'The Oklahoma Pool news', so it was available online. Look for a Pool newsletter being published in your area, or the areas you are interested
in, and look for Pool websites that cover your general area.
