Consistency and how straight do you shoot?

Curious how well you guys make the long, straight-in shots. On average, if you take 20 in a row, how many do you make? And at what level do you consider your ability?

I expect the pros would answer 20/20, I'm more curious about the other guys out there. I have been struggling to find a stroke, and haven't got more consistent than about 70%, or 14/20. I suspect that would put me way down the list of people that post here, but who knows?

And I understand there's a ton more to the game than just shooting straight, but this seems to be a decent indicator of how well my night will go.

I can make those all day if I shoot relatively hard. Try to shoot them at pocket speed, though and it all goes down hill for me.

Those are though.

I wonder what the criteria for a "make" is...

Is it to just make the ball, or is it to make the ball and stop the CB dead?

The first is relativly easy, the second takes some concentration.

You should really focus on pocekt speed. it takes a very clean straight consistent stroke to pocket a ball a great distance with pocket speed..Bert Kininster's 60 min workout will sharpen your skill with long straight in shots. he even show you that you can place the ball anywhere in the pocket (middle, fat side, shortside) . I will also say that i have taken seveal parts from diffrent tapes to put together a high percentage ability to make long straight in shots..one is dont bang it in..second...is make sure that you have a very good follow thru ...past the contact point on the cue ball. third is the aming system..i used to use the trusty rusty method that many people use which is pick a spot on the object ball but now my refrence point is the bottom of the object ball..i pick the contact point of the object ball then drop that point to the bottom of the ball and that is where i am at..you will make more ball this way..try it out for yourself

What helps me is to do the "Progressive straight shot practice" on the below link. I do this as part of my warm-up, so I'm doing this daily.

This helps me to "tune-in", "calibrate", or whatever. Seems after I drive a long way to a tournament or have not shot that day, I need a little refresher course on aiming, seeing, and shooting accurately.

If I shoot all the balls OK, then on to something else. If I have trouble with certain balls, then I'll practice those a bit. So this alerts me if I need to work on something. (Before I play in the tournament.)

And it is weird. Some days I have trouble with the far away balls, but make the other balls just fine. Other days the close balls give me trouble and the far away balls are just fine. And some days I can't miss.

See Progressive straight shot practice about 1/2 way down page.

Unless the cueball is in the opposite corner and I'm jacked up, I can make it 20/20 all day. Don't worry if you can't; the important thing is you are actively trying to find your stroke.

Those are though.

Make the shot gregg shows and follow the cue ball into the pocket 10 times in a row. Once you can do that ( on a nine footer) you have found your stroke.
