consistency
A.) Agreement or logical coherence among things or parts: a rambling argument that lacked any consistency.
B.) Correspondence among related aspects; compatibility: questioned the consistency of the administration's actions with its stated policy.
C.) Reliability or uniformity of successive results or events: pitched with remarkable consistency throughout the season.
I'm sure we can all agree that of the above, "C" is the most relevant to our particular obsession, and make no mistake about it.. I'm obsessed with pocket billiards, and chances are you are too. So bearing that in mind, here is my take on it..but first let me tell you about me.
I'm a decent player, I love the game, and I am a serious student of the game and of humans. I've taught some local guys and gals in their 20's and have produced two very fine players whose progress has been outstanding. I play on both 9' tables and bar boxes, but I must admit to a preference for a bar box when money is on the line.
I was a member of a local non-handicapped tavern league team.
The pub I have frequented for the past fourteen yearrs sponsored two teams, both of which played in the league for four long years without ever once seeing better than sixth, or seventh place, out of fourteen teams.
The team's low point came in the fifth year when all the others on my team dropped out. There I was, all alone still believing in the dream. The captain of the pub's other team called me and told me that the very same thing had happened to him...then we agreed to start a new team together, but this time things would be different.
The team that we created went on to dominate the league winning the league championship 4 times in a row. (No other team had ever won the championship more than twice in a row.) Each and every one of us went from being the butt of jokes, to being the man you had to respect.
Since that time I have been to Vegas with the APA, played and won in non-league tournaments and I am currently playing on a TAP team.
Q.) So what does al this have to do with consistency?
A.) A hell of of a lot, as it turns out!
Now I am tired but I will contiue.......
