contact lenses

Have had my contacts for a week and all I can say is WOW. They're great. Don't need glasses to play any more. Apparently they let you "test drive" contacts now so you don't have to make a commitment without being sure. My glasses are bifocals and I have an astigmatism. The contacts are for distance so I still use reading glasses. If you think about it, the distance from your cue tip to your eyes while shooting really does not fall in the close range category like reading but rather in the distance range. No more adjusting glasses on my face while playing. I highly recommend you try it. It's working out great.

Since you are (test driving) contacts try the ones called "multi focal" bausch and lomb make them and so do Acuvue (these are the brand I wear now). They are like having 17 year old eyes again. They are made for seeing both near and far....work great for pool. Would not want to go back to glasses. Good luck to you..............mark

Test drove the multi focal last night and had a tough time even getting them in my eyes because they were so thin. When I did get them in I couldn't focus well.

Ask the doctor about daily wear lenses; even if you're not going to follow through (because of cost) you'll probably get a week or two supply. Dailies are awesome to have for all-nighters in smokey places.

I've enjoyed contacts for a few years now, and am about to finally get laser correction. I hope it's as big a difference in comfort as glasses to contacts was.

One of the things I keep thinking about is getting laser surgery done or trying contacts at least for pool. My 9 year old daughter is so used to me with the way I am, if I got rid of my glasses totally she would freak out, I have to say that is half the reason I have not looked into either one seriously, the other half is that poking things into my eye is not something I want to do LOL.

Pool is one of the main reasons I looked into contact lenses. Been wearing them for decades ... oh, I do take them out occasionally. ;)

I have had Monovision lenses for 12 years now. Reading lens in one eye and distance type in the other. NO reading glasses and have no problems in pool (other than weak player) shooting guns including hand guns. Extended wear and I take them out or replace them about 2 weeks or so.

Im late 50's and I normally wear progressive bifocals for my everyday life. For pool I use ProClear 1 Day Multifocal disposable contacts. I find the multifocal lenses excellent for table vision. Even though my near far accommodation is poor, I can see the cue ball and the far end of the table clearly. Since they are disposable you don't need to be carrying around solutions for cleaning or storing. No more looking over rims or through distorted lens edges of glasses. On the negative side they are a little expensive (about $2-3 pair) which adds up. If you use powder, contacts are not for you.
