I am thinking about converting my drop pocket 8 footer to a ball return table. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about doing this? What should I look out for, difficulty, materials, estimated cost, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Really would need to know the model of table you have or even some photos. You said you have drop pocket, if it is a leather pocket style
table, forget about it.

If it is a plastic drop pocket table you have a good shot at putting a return on. A generic plastic tube style return runs around 100-150.
Not the best quality. A commercial style return is normally much heavier
metal construction and more dependable.

Agreed...DEFINITELY depends on what brand/model of table if this is even possible.
