i remember the Reno tournment that Jay writes a article about in this link,

I was there when Earl said "Stick a fork in me" when Efren beat him, It was about the 3rd or 4th pro event I had been to, The way Earl said it was funny, you had to be there to get it.

also look at the $$$ list it shows 85 and up to current 86, Wade Crane was #1 in the $$ in 85, it was a grin back then for the pros as it is today. Somehow it still manages to hold on. Its brutal thats for sure.

I remember this was the only way we got any info about pool other than when Kim would call in with any stories when he was on the road.

now we all know everything as it happens. Pool players are just as miserable now as then, negitivity pearmiates this world. It aint that way at the gym. thats the one thing I dont like about pool is all the negitive thinking, it gets old.

I don't think there's much difference between the pool hall and the gym as far as negativity goes. (Of course, I'd stay in my own little world in both.)

You have select elements in both groups willing to use drugs to perform at a level above their own natural level.

You've been around enough to know that some of the biggest guys still have serious body issues. It's in a quest for perfection that people start to question themselves. On the outside, it may look like something positive, but deep inside there's something wrong.

Some people buy sticks just to look fancy, some people buy gym outfits for the same reason, with neither of them really doing anything. When I went to the gym, I'd grab whatever wasn't worth wearing outside any more and a pair of sweatpants.

I've met a lot more good people playing pool than I have bad people..
...
That being said, I think the road players try a lot harder to not be outed nowadays.. whereas before, it didn't matter as much with a lack of easy communication (the internet/cell phones).

I think there'll be more players to keep your eye on for the future.. that's quite the list of names, though.

I think a gym and a pool hall are very similar....
