Suddenly as a Canadian I have to provide ID to prove who I am and all Americans are exempt?

Hey Mark, would you like to explain this one so that a person of above average intelligence understands this new rule and how it should only inpact people from outside of the USA? Sounds like discrimination to me.

So I sent the BCA an email and this is what they had to say about it
"Unfortunately, the issues we have had in obtaining legal names from foreign citizens, and resulting fees against us by the IRS, has prompted this policy change."

How hard can it be to get the legal name of a foreigner in the USA? Even Canadians cannot get into the US without a passport if flying in and a drivers license and second piece of ID if driving in.

I do understand getting ID once they have won money and wish to collect it, but having the ID beforehand is irrelevant.

With identity theft rampant it is not a wise thing to give up your name, address, a picture ID and a signature sample all in one envelope that may or may not make it to its destination and then may or may not be properly handled by people whom you have never met before.

Am I the only one who is concerned about this?
 
I've seen it before.

I guess cause of international people coming into the US, they want to make sure that this is you. Same as an airport... anyone over seas and or not a US citizen has to go through the visa/passport just for verification.

Some countries doesn't allow giving you the prize money right away and you have to fill out the "w-2" form so you won't get taxed and so on.

I believed in any tournament or team match... will probably be ask ID just to make sure its the right person on their team... Because if they show a false ID, its a forfeit and unsportsmanship.

Beforehand, you have to register with all your info to play in BCA so I wouldn't worry too much.
