I had a chance to speak with Corey Deuel and Mika Immonen at Fiddlestix and here is the skinny on their new hardware.

Tonight while I was at the poolroom a FedEx box showed up with Corey Deuel's new cues. Up to now he had been shooting with a Predator 2 in lew of his retired 5280. The cues were a matching set of Jacobys. One was maple with dark (bubinga? purpleheart?) inlays, ivory small inlays and no wrap. The other one was a similar break cue, except the shaft of the cue was purpleheart instead of maple. Everyone was curious to try out the breakcue, and the word was that it breaks pretty well. He was using a predator 314 shaft on the playing cue since the regular shaft had tip that was too soft.

As far as Mika Immonen, he is no longer sponsored by Capone Cues. Instead he is using a Mezz (www.miki-mezz.com), the same cue he just won the tour in Florida with. It looks sharp, and the shaft is a maple outside with a composite-reinforced core. The cue was off-the-shelf, and Mika seemed very enthusiastic about it. He mentioned that the Capones were great cues, but he sees a brighter future with a production company. Besides that he genuinely seemed to like the cue.

I hope Mika doesn't read that deflection test where it showed Mezz deflected more than the Red Dot. lol
Mezz are fine production cues.

Just wanted to add that Jacoby will be making a line of cues for Corey that will be available to the public.

Also, I asked Mika if he tried out the predator shaft. He told me he used it for a month and his game took such a dive that he got rid of it in a hurry. Corey seems to swear by them, on the other hand.

I had the mezz zz-sp. I loved the feel and balance of it. It seems my shotmaking, however, was negatively affected when I switched to this cue. At any rate, it got stolen a few weeks. Perhaps a blessing in disguise. :(

well good luck to both players. it was a 'good omen' for mika though when he won in FL, just hope it continues.
