Corey Deuel Controversial 10-Ball break at SBE

It's legal....but it's not going to get the best of Shane's break.

I'd rather break and run than assure my opponent gets to push on me.

Interesting for sure... Ironically, I was sitting 4 rows up and watched the whole thing live.

He was pissed because Corey's break wasn't sending 3 balls into the rail.

This clip was Corey's second break (i think,,, because he actually made the one ball on his first), and Shane took ball in hand even though it seems to be a legal break now in the video. They had a referee watch the rest of the breaks and even video taped them for proof.

I honestly don't know why he was breaking that way, it didn't seem to do anything positive for him.

I would love to hear why he was doing it that way.

How come no one is talking about this?

LOL Shane looks so pissed.

I think that is just wrong (playing safety on the break), and should not be a legal break. I guess it is legal though, if they do not have any rule against doing that type of thing.

Lol, that was really funny though , the way corey just looked straight ahead while it seemed like Shane was giving him the evil eye, and maybe saying something to him about it?

Where is the honor in breaking like that? Do a lot of players not have any honor, and will do anything they can to win, if it is not against the rules? Is it all just about money? This just does not seem right, and makes pool look bad I think.

I agree

That break is designed to break and run... make the 1 in the side and get shape on the 2. If you don't make the 1, your opponent gets what Shane got. Corey is the most creative breaker the game has ever seen IMO.

I am very interested to know if doing that safety bream helped corey's chances at all? Did Corey lose many of the games that he did that break, and did he ever stop doing it? Was it alternating breaks? How did the match turn out? Final score? Thanks.

That's stupid. Best you can hope for is playing a good safe after Shane's pushout.

Why not make a ball and then have the option of runout, safe or push? This foolishness shouldn't be tolerated. I don't know why he would expect to win like this.

If it's allowed within the rules and it's giving him an advantage then good on him for being creative and finding advantages where no one else has yet.

I agree

That is really interesting. Corey did not think of new ways to great back in his prime though, or did he? When did he start thinking of all these creative ideas? I still think it is wrong, and should not be legal. Just my opinion. It just looks boring , and bad for pools image.

It was alternating breaks. Corey didn't break hard once

Not sure of the stats but I think it was 10-6 at the end.

Shane broke and ran out one rack, I think.

Believe me,,, that break did not help Corey one bit. Esp. when he fouled on the break and gave Shane BIH.... Shane picked that rack apart and ran out.

Exactly. ...what possible advantage is giving up the tabke like this when the opponent can just pushout or make a legal hit? Seems the scientist has finally gone mad.

I absolutely admire Corey and how he does things. He is a true student of the game. What better way to find out if you have an advantage than to test it in the field, and against the best player.

All the cry babies sound like what I imagine the whiners sounded like when the first intentional bank shot was executed. Everyone standing around the table in total astonishment "wheres the honor in shooting a ball off the rail?"

He broke like that against Kiamco in the same event a few years ago and lost. He also lost the match in the OP. Perhaps he would stand a better chance with a regular break. Perhaps he was just trying to throw Shane out of rhythm.

Yes because breaks like that are what is holding pool back from being popular

Agree 1000%! I think if Corey stayed focused throughout his career in pool, he would be THE best player in the world!

Nobody comes close to him as far as being creative!

Interesting.

During Friday 2pm round and his match with Dechaine, Corey was approached by the tournament ref/director (not Frank DelP). I was too far away to hear the discussion, but it was clearly related to racking. The TD was holding up his hands in a triangle shape and they were discussing a rules issue somewhat animated. Then Frank Del P asked loudly of the players at neighboring tables "Didn't we discuss _____ at the Player's Meeting?"

I can't wait for Dr. Dave to do a "Corey Deuel Break Video Technique Analysis" on this one. The slow motion re-play would probably look like Mike Wong playing one pocket.

yes he did, they had to change the US open 9 ball rules becasue of him. 10 ball is supposed to be the be all, end all for the pros, the ultimate challenge..as soon as someone figures out a break, it's back to break and run , face it that's what pros do
