Too brittle b/c it has no linen/clothe backing/weave.

I have also seen ferrules made of Acrylic (shown in photos)
Very flashy looking but distracting to most players but I like them.

The bad thing with Acrylic is that often when it breaks it actually shatters like glass so if you use them for ferrules it may be wise to have liability insurance in case someone loses an eye a couple of tables away. I've heard of a couple people using Corian for ferrules but they are not as strong as phonelics and can crack. I used it for an inlay in a guys cue once and the finish lost it's bond right over the inlay. I don't know if this was because the Corian is hard to stick to or if that is where he bumped the cue, as the man moved away shortly after that and I've not seen it since. I do notice that Schon uses Corian for inlays though.

Corian is used by a lot of cuemakers as an ivory substitute in Bushka rings.
