I notice some cues when made, IMO when it is a maple wood for the handle part of the core... it is not cored but when it is exotic wood you would core the center and put a dowel in for strengthen. Is that true?

This may be a can of worms. I have only been building for a couple of years and core everything. IMOH it helps stabilize the wood but it also reduces the weight of heavier woods such as ebony. If you core with maple or purple heart then a maple piece of wood will not weigh much different. It comes down to preference or patients. I have none of the ladder. Every cue I have built has been a solid hitter.

good luck, jim

ah ic ic, I just notice one picture of the coring from joint to butt end.

im actually getting into building cues. Im in the stage of making a lathe right now. hoping to hit the $500-$600 range on the lathe. im only 25yrs old. some hobby are cool and fun but this one should hit the spot.

i'm getting some pointers from certain people around my area and im leaning towards the basic build without the veneer. future on probably.

I didnt want to buy that whole dvd set to watch and learn the build since its so expensive. But i have also learned even if you finished with the wood as in making it into a dowel you have to dry it for a long period of time. So it will probably be a long process

Thanks.

Vietso, if you haven't started yet listen to me! Stop and save your money! Ok, you have been warned. That wouldn't have stopped me either. I started like you . I wasted allot of time, money, and effort. When I purchased those DVDs I realized where I went wrong. If you don't have anyone around that really knows how to build a cue then buy either Chris Hightowers book and DVDs or Joe's DVDs from Cue Components. I have all the above. You will still come up with your own way of building however their methods are quite commonly used in the art of cue building.

good luck, Jim.
