what does it mean to core? i understand the general ideology of coring, but i am curious as to how it would be applied to a cue?

It is exactly as it implies. Generally speaking, when a cuemaker cores a forearm (or any other part of the cue) they usually bore the forearm out and insert a 3/4" (or other size) maple dowel all the way through it, therefore coring the forearm.
