corner pocket angle

The BCA specs say the angle of the throat of the corner pocket should be 142 degrees. How is this measured? From where to where? Thanks.

angle

That's a good question, but I am getting a table set up, and I'd like to have an approximate idea of what the angle should be. Also, on this table, the side pockets have almost no angle at all, that is, the rail comes almost straight out. That angle is supposed to be 103 degrees, and again I would like to understand how this is measured, because it needs to be corrected.

That would have to be the angle between the cushion face and the pocket facing. 142 degrees is 7 degrees straighter than a 45 degree angle into the pocket, meaning instead of the facings being totally parallel to each other, they will 14 degrees (7 per facing) more open than that.

If that doesn't make sense (and re-reading it, it doesn't make much sense verbally), here's a diagram. There's a 142 degree external (38 degree internal) angle between lines A and B, and a 14 degree angle between lines B and C.

START(
%Pi9O7%QP9C6%RN7I0%SM1M9%WQ0C3%XD7C2%YO2J3%ZC7B3%[M0L8%\B3C7
%eB4a4
)END

The same goes with the side pocket, the facings are 103 degrees (external angle) from the cushions, and thus 26 degrees divergent from each other. Here's another diagram, angle AB is 103 (or 77, depending on how you look at it) and angle BC is 26.

START(
%Pi9O7%Qh4Y6%R_7O5%ST6O4%Wh2[4%X\7[3%Y_4P9%Z\5\8%[V8P8%\Z0\6
%eB4a4
)END

Hope that helps.

As soon as I get this Wei table working, maybe I will understand. I will let you know, thanks very much.

Not exactly a worthwhile answer, is it?

For all you know, he's going to construct a table, or modify his pocket, or thinks his table is out of specification.

The cushion would be zero degrees down the length of the cushion. The angle the pocket facing makes with the cushion is 103° to the cushion.

Actually it could make a huge difference, but I'm guessing you've NEVER jawed a ball.

throat angle

Thanks again to everyone, including Dr. Dave. Mark Gregory is doing the table Thursday, he probably doesn't need my input anyway, but I can't help myself.
