Back in the late 70's,in Billings Montana,a great player by the name of Frank Mcgowan[spelling?]started a franchise pool room called the Corner Pocket.I don't know how many were eventually built but being a truck driver I can tell you there was one in Albuquerque[now called Pockets],Cheyenne[Mingles],Laramie[Mingles]Twin Falls[Pockets],Idaho Falls and Kalispell [Cattlemans].I live in Kalispell myself and at league last night I spoke to a friend if mine by the name of Kevin Iverson about the old room in Kalispell.Kevin used to own it in 79 and told me about a tournament that went down that year. We talked about Frank, Dan Louie, Terry Boucher,Jack Madden,Earl Strickland,Pete Quande,Bob Grey and others. I was so enthralled with the tale of all these big boys being in my little city it made up for how bad I shot. Were any of you guys here? And do you know where any other Corner Pockets were? Don:cool:

How about you Jack. Do you remember that tournament and who was there? And there had to be a Corner pocket in Phoenix? Don

One opened in Montclair, CA. I met Frank one afternoon there, and was asking him about equipment. He was very accomodating and friendly. The Corner pocket opened there in the mid 80s, I think.

Frank was a hell of a straight pool player.

Do you what its called now. Still open?

No, it closed sometime in the early 90s, I believe. A place opened nearby called "Shooters" and has since closed. Seemed like a nice place, though.

There was a Corner Pocket in Macon GA a long time ago. Closed down after a fire (i think)... but it was THE room for a while... Home to the one and only Rocky Creek..... I think JAM has a story about rolling through there on a road trip trying to match up with Rocky.... While waiting on him some "kid" busted them out of their stack playing behind the back!!

Not sure if it was part of chain... might have been.
