Correct procedure to remove g 10 joint pin

Hello,
I have a customer that has a butt with a g 10 3/8 x 11 pin in it. He wants to remove it and have a 3/8 x 10 pin put in.
what is best way to remove the g 10 pin. I was thinking cut off and face off flat drill small then up and up and then bore out with the boring bar. then
put in maple core and then drill and tap as normal. Since I can not heat the g 10 pin up like normal.

Sorry for minor hijack distraction, but I have a great old cue with an oddball slightly proprietary steel 3/8-10 pin and it would great to have it replaced with a normal 3/8-10 pin. I'm not a cue maker, do you mind sharing for a layman like me - what is the "standard" procedure for replacing a metal pin, and is it difficult/risky and generally best avoided, or fairly routine job?

You are on the right track....
 
I did the procedure that I talked about prior. It all worked out great. Customer is happy his new carbon fiber fits the butt. I also redid the shaft from 3/8x11 to 3/8 x 10 also. The new pin goin in was also a phonolic.

You should be able to heat a G10 pin up to remove it and it may cost you a drill bit, but that is still fairly cheap. Cut off the front half of the pin leaving enough to get a pair of vise grips on. Drill with a bit of like 5/32 all the way to the bottom of the pin. Then just let the cue keep spinning pretty fast on it until the pin gets really hot. Stop the lathe and test it with the pliers to see if the glue has turned loose. Keep testing every minute or so until the pin un-screws.
