Cortland Linen Cue

Looking for a Cortland Linen wrapped cue. Heard it feels amazing but tough to find. I like stiff playing cues and thinner butts if possible, but understand that may be even more difficult to find given the historical period of time Cortland was in use. Open to wide range of prices depending upon provenance of cue. PM what you have......

I have a Josswest tulipwood merry widow with original white/green linen wrap. Cue has 3 shafts and was recently refinished by Ned Morris who spent hours cleaning and re pressing the original wrap. It is 1500.00 circa 1975. About 19.5 oz.

I recently found a late 1990s custom Dale Perry cue that was wrapped in Cortland - this was way before Dale Perry's e bay cue days began. My first Cortland linen wrapped cue and I really do feel the difference- it is just great- unlike any of my other linen wrapped cues. if you are still looking I would recommend to keep using the search words "cortland linen wrap" on every used cue sale site on a regular basis and one day you will find one.

Yes, definitely interested but I also am not sure how to tell whether it is Cortland or not. My lay understanding is that Cortland tends to be much whiter with fewer green specs but with the age of a TS, it may be Cortland. Great cue but how do we determine the wrap?

Not sure myself. I know that the wrap is " new" but my thoughts is that it was replaced with some of the rare surviving Cortland linen..
You can share the pics around, maybe Ideologist would know.


Another idea for you is to buy some of the surviving old Cortland...I saw a while back I think it was Ideologist but not sure someone had some they would sell for around $600.

I have original Cortland #256 and a remake from the 90's that was done for Tad. Don't pay a bundle for it. It is nice, but not that much different than the others. How wrap is pressed is a big factor. I got the Cortland from Bert Schrager in 1985 while working in his shop. Roger

I have a couple of 100 yard spooks some place in storage of something we use to call Beaded Dacron we use to use on Fly Reels.

Believe it is White Green if I recall. Is this same stuff people wrap Cues with.

Or different stuff???

I have one cue with Cortland linen wrap- to me, it just feels a bit softer in your hands than any of the other quality linen wraps. It is not slick, it is not coarse, if installed correctly, a sensitive hand can tell the difference, IMO. I am not saying it is a better wrap than other quality linen wraps installed by some of the best wrap guys out there like Mike Capone, Troy Downey; it just feels a bit softer to the touch.

I've been "out of the game" a while and just poking around. Tulipwood is my favorite. Out of curiosity is this still available?
