I was watching ESPN news today and of course they had the Cory Lidle plane crash on every hour, and after seeing several different people give stories about him.

A reporter who was semi-close to him and also was interested in flying planes talked about how Cory also loved playing pool and frequented Amsterdam Billiards.

Does anyone who frequents the place have any stories about playing with him or seeing him play?

Jude can you chime in?? did you ever see him?

I was at Amsterdam Billiard Club when it happened. I was talking with the waitress throughout the afternoon and as it became clear who was in the plane, it was her (Sian) who told me that Cory comes in frequently, and was friends with Tony. I believe Tony was also there that afternoon. Later on, they turned up the TV at the bar area so everyone could listen to the story.

Yeah, he was becoming a bit of a regular at Amsterdam. He was playing Tony every day pretty much and was a solid player to boot. I met him because he approached me and introduced himself like any other pool player might do. If someone were going his way, they'd give him a ride home (like they would for any other regular there).

For me, he made the world feel awfully small. I mean, even living in New York City where spotting celebrities can be a daily thing, there's still a bit of a barrier between us (normal folk) and them (celebrities). Cory acted more like us and less like them. One of the times I saw him, he was sitting in the front of the room, watching the game on the head-table. He looked as though he was perfectly happy just being one of the guys and that's how he was treated.

I'm still sad about it all.
