Could WE?

I have read post after post where someone has written that standardization is needed. Whether we are talking about rules, leagues, or equipment that comment comes up.

With the evolution of the Internet and forums such as this one, is it not possible to make this happen? Or are all the organizations and individuals unwilling to work together for the good of the game. Has this been tried? Could a forum such as this one initiate a dialog between these entities that might result in something great?

more like "SHOULD WE?"

BINGO..... there is no cooperation in pool.

i don't think forums like this can initiate anything that would result in a better standard for the game. to begin with,,,why should we fans take up the gauntlet for pool? that's their responsibility. if "they" don't want to work together, that's tough and that's where they find themselves.

sometimes i think the fans care more about the game than the players and organizers.

I imagine you are referring to standardization of the rules for the pros only. Before you can standardize the rules for them you would have to have a clear definition of who is a pro. Or at least which tounament is classified as a pro tournament. I think the rule problem exists more in the minds of the non-pros than it does in the minds of the pros. The only real pro tour right now is the WPBA and I don't hear any complaints about their rules.

I am refering to the game as a whole. Standardization the way most other competitive sports are.

It's pretty hard to standardize anything in this game. To achieve standardization, you need to have people willing to compromise, i.e., people with disparate beliefs or opinions need to come towards the middle and meet with a common goal or purpose. If you look at all the posts on this site, the thing that I notice the most is that many of the people in here have strong opinions from one extreme to the other.

Look at all the posts related to the UPA. They can't get a professional organization formed so that the pro players can attempt to consistently make money in tournaments. It seems to me, after reading all those posts, the players are afraid they're going to get taken advantage of. It's no wonder because most top-notched players have hustled once or twice in their lives. That means they have taken advantage of people before and now another top-notched player is trying to get all the players to form a professional tour. It makes sense, considering what I just said that hustlers would find it difficult to trust other hustlers.

Standardization is going to be difficult to achieve in this game.
