How long do you think it will take before we start to see major discounts or mark down sales on pool cues and other pool related supplies ? I know that everyone wants to get top dollar for there products but Cmon company's like predator and mezz will eventually have to start slashing prices on there cues , custom cue makers are probably going to have to cut there prices if they want to stay afloat . So how long do you think it will take before prices go down ?

The top cuemakers will never have to discount. Probably not the same for the rest.

I'm not sure it's going to happen that way. Probably going to depend on how the market open and rolls out for back-to-work. I just order $800.00 worth of stuff from Pooldawg and the prices were pretty normal. Going to buy the wife her 1st cue and McDermott is closed so I can't.

We might just be fortunate we can buy something at regular price.

You might see sales on overstock items but no big markdowns on main line items imo. Cue co's. have already slowed/paused production from what i've been told. Custom makers aren't going to drop prices much if any.

People said the same thing in 2007 when the entire financial market collapsed. Pool cues have done nothing but gone UP in price since then. This will have zero effect on pool cues, pricing, etc.

I just sold a billiard related item on eBay this week at a fairly steep discount from my normal pricing and it sold immediately- good business people should recognize opportunities to make sales by pricing correctly into this market. Also, for some people, not all of course, the stimulus checks are discretionary money that they may spend on a whim; unless the general economic situation has them feeling more financially conservative. Overall, I would suspect this industry, like most right now, is going through a correction period that will not let up for some time.

In order to keep sales and the industry going, I would encourage individual sellers to offer some discounting and let the consumers know that they are being sensitive to their situations by offering a break on pricing. Sellers being realistic and buyers responding are the keys to keeping the consumer economy going well.

I would say that the general cue market rebounded with the general economy ONLY because we have had the greatest 10 year run in history in terms of financial market gains AFTER the 2007/08/09 recession. So yes, prices have risen over the past 10 years; but short term; in 07/08/09 the markets were deflated.

Markets will deflate again to some degree, the strength and speed of the rebound will dictate how quickly and to what extent they rise again. In this industry- it is DEMAND that is the key to price points- the billiard industry needs a strong U.S. rebound to get demand back up to levels we saw in 2000 to 2007 to REALLY see great price appreciation again.

I had a friend of mine (another cue maker) tell me that we were recession proof. I thought he was just pulling my leg but so far I've been extremely busy.

I marked up all of my F/S items so I can deep discount them to those with stimulus money to spend.

I tend to think the values are going to go down on pretty much everything. I wouldn't think cues would be any different. Folks like myself that are looking at getting laid off in the next couple of months are not going to spend money on cues. The ironic thing is, I was about to drop a paycheck on a good cue, but no way can I justify that now. Just my opinion, I'm not trying to get anyone to lower prices on cues. I'm just talking from where I'm at right now, and I have a feeling I'm not alone.

Well...,

When the stock market crashed in 2007 it didn't close every Pool Hall indefinitely and and challenge our games future for years to come. The prices might hold for now, but if things don't open up by the December?

There are no discounts with anything that involves the billiards industry unless they are overstock junk. It's just how it is with people in this industry. The nicest guy in the pool hall still has some shady and sketchiness in him. People at bars are more nicer than some players.

Who first?

I think the Cue Brokers will have to start making deals, they sell lots of their Cue's on consignment, they also depend on the big shows and tournaments to display their goods, make trades and barter, that wont be happening this year and maybe not until late next year.

If your looking for a deal, thats the place.

Good question. This virus thing has caused me to save a lot of money over the past few months. Neither me nor my wife have be going out with each other or our friends. That is saving a huge hunk of change. We're retired with stable income.

But I am concerned about the overall economy, so I'm banking it all until I know it's safe to spend. I had been planning on going to the re-scheduled SBE in June and looking to test drive some cues I had my eye on.

But I don't know if that will be safe enough yet. Seyberts, Ozone and the Dawg will have to drop another 10-15 percent to get me to mail order a cue that I only "think" I want to buy. I really like to test drive first. King T is right SBE may not even happen on the revised date. That's a serious dent in sales.

If you're selling something right now, you should pay attention to that as ebay is delivering products faster than any other major retailer right now (much faster). I can only assume that ebay is not deliberately advertising this in fear of the politically correct backlash (but their quarterly will show it). That, and maybe a little of since they don't actually ship themselves (but probably mainly because of the PC).
