CPBA Competition grade vs. Royal grade (anyone have this cloth on their home table)?

I didn't want to derail the Diamond thread any further so I decided to make a new thread.

Recently got an 8ft Brunswick furniture style table for my house and wanting to change the cloth soon.

Does anyone have any experience with CPBA competition vs royal grade on their home table?

I am looking for something similar to Simonis 860HR because that is what most of the pool halls use and I would like to simulate tournament conditions as much as possible.

I've been having a hard time trying to find out which one is more similar to Simonis. Various links online say that the Royal is faster than competition, but I don't want it too fast like the Simonis 760. There are conflicting descriptions on Google.

If anyone has experience with this cloth on their home table or have played on them extensively at their pool room, I would appreciate your insight.

Royal seems to be more premium quality and is only a couple dollars extra than Competition, but both are way cheaper than Simonis.

According to this, Royal is comparable to Simonis 760 (way too fast), so that means I would have to go with Competition if I want something closer to the speed of 860HR. Am I wrong in this assumption?

I msg'd CPBA and their sales rep told me that Comp is faster than Royal. Said Royal is more 'stable' whatever that means. I'm guessing a smoother surface.

That's interesting, very vague response. I'm going to try to give them a call and let them know I would like to purchase their product if they can tell me which cloth specifically is more similar to Simonis 860HR. Based on their message to you, it looks like Royal is in my future. This makes sense since Matchroom has partnered with CPBA and will be using their premium "Royal Apex" cloth in future competitions. I don't know of any WNT tournaments that used Simonis 760 so it looks like they are also going with what is more similar to 860, which is most likely Royal.

Simonis 860 cloth is made from a blend of 90% wool and 10% nylon
so thats your comparison

CPBA Royal Grade cloth is 85% wool/15% nylon
Cost is $220

Competition Grade is 65% wool/35% nylon
Cost is $188

Simonis 860HR is $434.
I thought Simonis 860HR was 70% wool/30% nylon?

I think regular 860 is 90%/10%

Why try to find something to emulate the playability/speed of 860HR when you could just buy 860HR?

Over the life of the cloth on a home table, the cost difference probably isn't five dollars a month…

A lot of places are starting to use CPBA, including all WPBA, Ultimate Pool and future WNT tournaments, so it must not be complete trash. They must be of similar quality, so why pay extra for Simonis?

Must NOT be complete trash means that it must be good, if every major tournament is endorsing it or being endorsed by it. I don't see the big deal of someone having a preference...

I've broken better than opponents with an $800-1000 BK Rush, what does it matter?

The cost of something doesn't always equate to the quality of something, I'm sure you know that.

They just put the cpba on the diamonds that I play on at a local bar about 6 months ago. It played good .. really fast and consistent. I was more interested honestly to see how it held up and after 6 months of heavy play it actually still looks really great. It’s holding up well. I wouldn’t hesitate if I was trying to save a couple bucks putting it on my home table. That being said I’m at a good place in my life where saving a couple bucks doesn’t mean anything to me and pool is my only vice so I’m putting somonis on.

Because some people aren’t made of money and they need to save a few dollars.
