CPG

Is “Contact Point Geometry” (“CPG”) simply the positions of the CB/OB when their correct contact points are touching? Or is it a specific method of visualizing that?

Let’s simply things, the contact point is the point on the OB furthest away from the intended pocket, The End.

Thanks, but that's well known (even to me :)).

Straightline uses the term "CPG" frequently, apparently suggesting how to aim to hit the OB contact point - I'm asking him to translate.

Eroded petroglyphs point to some guy here posted in some aiming thread, something to the effect of starting at the midpoint of the line of centers and sighting from there to the OB contact then parallel shifting over center cueball.
Wei/Cuetable then diagrammed that process and disappeared.

The rest is a collection of alignment methods that "socket" the cueball into the correct hit.
Jimmy Reid's equal angle opposites FI.

The cosmic overlap in the OP (note the contact point in middle Venn) is another.

Contact point ellipse puts all the information right on the CB; came up with that myself.
There are also tangent sighting techniques that are deadly.

Ghost ball is to check if you're in a pool hall.

The blue line is the line of centers. The red line is the line of contact. The black line is the shooting line.

When the balls are close together, I place my thumb on the point where red intersects blue and my index finger next to the OB contact point. This line segment from thumb tip to index tip provides the contact line. Now you know where the black line should point.

The yellow line is provided to show the black shooting line intersects the base of the ghostball.

So, after further reading it seems CPG means any visualization that’s geometrically correct? If so, I like it (I probably like it either way).

For my purposes, it has to socket the cue ball to the object ball in the correct orientation. You writing a book? Send me a copy.
The tangent visualizations can be done in space with the bridge hand if required. Often it only takes the ability to see a quarter inch line segment at the desired tangent at the appropriate angles - CB and OB of course. I used the term "deadly". Try it on combinations. You can use the stick as a slider to help get the CB direction. Shoot center ball of course to get the hang of it.

Forgot to actually answer the question. In a nutshell, yes.
