Congratulations to Tony Crosby who just beat Efren 8-7 in a first round tv match at the WPC.

Great win for Tony C.

Crosby was up 7-4, race to 8 and had the eight and nine left on the table. The 8 was a soft roll cut in the side and he missed it. Next thing you know Efren had tied up the score 7-7. Crosby broke in the last rack and by this time the crowd was beside themselves in what looked like one of those amazing Reyes comebacks from the dead. Crosby had a shot off the break and misplayed it, then Efren ran the whole table until he came down to what would normally be a fairly routine cut on the 9 in the corner pocket...and he missed it! I have never seen Efren miss a 9-ball like that and the crowd was stunned. There must have been 40 million Filipinos watching it live on tv. Crosby was so nervous he could barely get down on the 9, which he eventually soft cut into the side pocket for the win.

Tony Crosby had a great attitude throughout this whole match. Filipinos are so hardcore for Efren, they live and die on every shot he hits, and Tony said that sometimes when he bent down to take a shot he could hear people whispering, "miss, miss." Tony just laughed and played along with the crowd and rolled with punches. With that approach and beating the legend on his home turf, he's definitely made a huge name for himself in the Philippines.

I saw the match, of course I root for Efren. It is a great
win for Crosby. My thought is that Crosby as a pool player
enters the next level of not pool technique but mentality.
From now on, In his mind he knows he can beat anybody in any pool table.

Fantastic result for Tony!

Just had a quick chat, he said the atmosphere was like nothing he had experienced before.

Hey T, way to go!! Playing Efren on the TV table in the Philippines.... dude, that's just brutal to try and fade. Great job, great win, couldn't happen to a better guy! ;)

Wow what a win for Tony, beating Efren the first time he's played him has to be one of the biggest wins of his career, and he did it on live TV in Efren's homeland to boot!

Well ....

I would say it is more like a win by default. How many times is Efren going to miss match ball????

Why in the hell would you try and take away from this? If you don't want to give Tony credit for winning that last game, how about you at least give him credit for getting to the hill with Efren.

Hey every Body this was a fantastic match to be involved in. Although I got lucky at the end with him missing the 9 ball at the end but he did have the majority of the run in the match which kept him in it.
The crowd were just unreal you have never heard a match atmosphere like it.
I played very solid and my nerves were defo working over time. The crowd was begging me to miss on a lot of shots which was funny and when I missed the round of applause was prity big for the incoming Reyes. It was defo a match to remember win or lose i would have enjoyed it.

Tony, I just saw the replay. Was not able to watch that game live yesterday, as I was busy. Nice win and you are a pretty standup guy in that environment.

Just one question, you had your towel in your hand and watching, were you by any chance thinking of throwing that towel in? :D

It's on now... i am watching live stream of the replay from the internet... nice quality... can't wait for that 9-ball miss by Efren... rare!

Hey Blow Fish,
That is a good question but the answer is no, I never realy like to do that. I know I was playing Efren but he had missed an easier ball that the 9 when I was leading 7-4. So I know he was feeling just as much pressure if not more that me. Plus I always like to let players make the winning ball because as you seen you just never know.
I also put a good report on the match on my site

No problem Tony. I saw that very easy 8 that you where taking about at 7-4. Hoping you're still in at last 32. I'm arriving Manila on the 9th. Hope to see you. Best of luck and may the balls roll your way.

Congratulations, Tony! You must be really feeling pumped right now. MOre luck to you....

It would have been 8-3 if Efren hadn't fluke the 9 ball when leaving the 8 over the pocket earlier on. The best man won.
