Crowd "applause" and time you take to line up shot

I read once that a certain pro (forget who) would have an easy shot. Yet he had a bit of showmanship in himself and would take a few moments to point his stick this way and that way lining up his shot and then shoot. Then he would receive something short of a standing ovation for his "ESPN" shot. (Of course he could have just walked up to the table and whacked the ball in. Maybe a 5-ball combo where the last two balls are wired and you just can't miss.)

I have noticed the same thing. Last night someone snookered me in a game of 9-ball. It initially looked like a good choice for a 2-rail kick. So I used my cue to line up the shot, then saw that a 2-rail would not work. So then I lined up for a 1-rail kick. (Anyone watching would have seen me using my cue to line up this way, then that way, then this way, then that way. I suppose they thought all my "lining up" was all for the shot I used.) Anyway I took twice as long as normal to line up this shot. Then shot and hit the ball (good hit)... Well everyone watching was falling all over themselves telling me what a good shot it was.

Earlier in the evening, I shot pretty much the same shot, but just walked up and shot it without any "lining up". Then all I got was one "good hit" comment from someone watching. :D

Like many things in life, act like you know what you're doin'... and most people will be impressed... basically, because they're clueless.

The last thing that I like to see on a televised match... or one that I'm watching in person is applause on every friggin' shot... give me a break!
