CTE and shaft size... question for stan

maybe this has been asked before--- i have no idea..

What is the ideal shaft and ferrule size for conventional cte?? it seems that it if the shaft is too small like a Z shaft or something skinny like that, then the ball will undercut or overcut depenmding on the alignment/perception...

please explain to me if i am wrong or not..

i recently starting having issues with my shaft where i dont feel like any aiming method is working because of the size of my shaft and i want to work on my cte.. i have the diameter of a z shaft on my cue now and i need to know if this will affect my aiming with cte... i understand that with pro-one it doesnt matter(sweeps), but i need to start back using cte before i move on to pro-one again....

I am a serious student and if you lived closer to me i would be there in a heartbeat to work with you..

Jason, You are good to go with your Z. CTE is a visual system. It makes no difference what size shaft you take to the table. Your eyes see CCB first and your cue alignment follows.
On the other end of things, you could sweep in with a broom stick if you wanted . ( no pun intended )

I don't know if this is what might be affecting you, but almost all of the smaller shafts are not parallel 'pro' taper. They are conical taper. The sides of the shaft are not parallel. They angle from a wider point about 15 inches from the tip down to the smaller tip. If you use a side of the cue as in stick aiming or doing a manual pivot & stopping short it might be your problem

In CTE/Pro1 you aim for a specific given line (visual)- you are trying to get the correct perception for A, B or C. In each of these cases you are anyway going to shoot as a Center-Ball Shot. So the *Aiming Line* (if m allowed to use this description here) is the always the same- no matter if oyu re using 9mm diameter shaft or 13.25 mm shaft.

The taper should also have absolutley nothing to do with it- nothing. The center of the shaft is always the same- and so it should be clear.

My point was that IF one was doing a manuel pivot & coming in from the side one might/could wind up stopping the pivot a bit short if one sees a conical inside edge as straight.

You say the taper should not make a difference. Well obviously if done correctly it should not.

But... he was having trouble with the smaller tipped shaft that probably has a conical taper. Obviously he was not doing it as should be

I think you might want to file this away for future reference. When human beings are involved it often happens that what should be or not be is the opposite when human being are are involved.

That s all what counts for me-- if something is correct and obviously it is the important thing in my opinion. To discuss about *he could if he would* is no point for me.
He has just have to know, that the size of the shaft-diameter doesn t matter- nothing else. We are talking to hit in this case JUST to hit the cueball dead center. That s it.
all other *woulda shoulda coulda* variations don t count. these would be just kind of excuses (somehow).

So are you saying the shaft does not matter so keep doing what you are doing because it is not the shaft?

I do not understand this post. Obviously he was not doing something correctly(ie something wrong) because it was not working with the smaller diameter shaft but does work with a different shaft. So something has to be causing him to do something wrong.

No one is making excuses, simply looking for the possible cause. The angled edge of the shaft could be influencing his visual perception, especially if he has never played with a conical shaft before & especially if he has previously used a stick aiming method before that utilizes the edge of the shaft.

Again, I do not understand your post. One can hit 'dead center' to the cue line but that would not be 'dead center' to the shot line.

Yes, the solution is to sight down the center of the shaft. That is why I was pointing out the different configuration of a conical shaft. If one looks down the edge to line up the cue, the center line of the cue will not be 'dead center' to the shot line but instead a bit off.

What good does it do him to simply say the shaft does not matter when he is looking for help to understand why he is missing?
