Hey guys
In my quest to learn and get familiar with the system "pre-reception-of-the-dvd" (I should recieve it in two weeks), I wanted to make sure I understand the Perceptions correctly
From what I gather, there are 3 main perceptions that are often talked about and cited when executing a shot on different youtube videos ("15 degree percetpion, left sweep" or "30 degree perception, right sweep".
I understand these perceptions are not exact angles between the CB and OB in reference to the pocket. I understand it is useless to get out a protractor and measure. What I understand is that if you "fit" in a 15, 30 or 45 degree perception, you'll either aim to A, B or C (also depending on the cut direction).
If you consider my diagram, I drew different angles that are based on the OB and pocket. It so happens that the OB is in straight line with the pocket, but these angles could be shifted to match the OB's position.
Basically is it correct to say that when looking at a shot, you can stand directly behind the OB in line with the pocket, and visualise these angles. If your CB is in the 15 degree portion, you would aim to either A or C on the OB. If your CB is in the 30 degree, you'd aim to B, and if your CB is in the 45 degree, you'd again aim to either A or C, without any CTE ? Did I get that right?
In my example:
-Cueballs A and B stand in the 45 degree "perception" with a left cut, so would use inside Edge to C, without any CTE.
-Cueballs C and D are in the 30 degree perception with a left gut, so would use CTE and ETB as perceptions,
-Cueball E is in the 15 degree perception with a left cut so would use CTE and ETA
-Cueball F is pretty much straight in, so you could either use CTE/ETA with a right sweep, or CTE/ETC with a left sweep
-Cueball G is now a right cut, so would use CTE/ETC
-Cueballs H and I are both 30 degree perceptions with a right cut, so would use CTE/ETB
-Cueballs J K and L are all 45 degree perceptions so would require only ETA with no CTE
I know I didn't include any sweeps in those examples (except straight ins), as I want to make sure I understand the perceptions before trying to pivot or sweep.
I would also have a question as to what "perception" would you need for a ball that is outside the yellow angle, but still in the feasable <90 degree angle. Would you go to 1/8th overlap?
Thank you all for letting me know if any of this is correct, and if it is, I hope this can help others who are confused by the many nomenclature used by CTE users when calling out shots on youtube videos. I often hear "B, Left" or "CTE, ETA inside" or "30 degree perception, ouside"
