cue case tubes

I should ask this prior to completing the case, I just made a case with 6 tubes inside, all tubes can fit a butt, meaning all the tubes are large. Basically I can put in 6 butts and no shaft

Anyways I decided on this configuration since I can put 2 shafts in 1 tube, this makes for a case that can be a 3x3, 3x6 or a 4x4

as for the tubes, I use paper tubes which is very rigid, I can stand on tubes and it can hold my weight....

I can switch to PVC tubes , but the weight of the case and at most 4 cues scares me...

What do you think ?

Sounds like a good idea, but I would be worried about my shafts rubbing against each other (hmm. pool is filled with inappropriate terminology...)

Do you have pics of your case?

case

I have made about 10 cue cases for other players and have used the tubes the clubs are shipped in, they are light weight so if the case is wood you don't really need heavy duty tubes.

I built mine out of Basswood which is a soft hardwood that looks like maple and is used in cabinet face frames. I make them in the tube style instead of the brief case style so I don't have to worry what the inside looks like.

I use to have those flimsy cases where the butt and shaft is placed in one container, never had any problems with the shaft rubbing against the butt....this does not sound bad at all ;-)

I just tested the case this morning with 3 butts, 1 jump cue and 5 shafts...it aint that heavy, but one major problem showed up...the strap keeps sliding off my shoulder... I guess this is coz by the smooth nature of the leather I used for the strap support, I would be adding another layer of leather in the strap, this time I would let the rough side of the leather be exposed to provide more traction....

Photos..will post photos soon....

We'll be callin you qcaseguy before long!!

What kind of paper tubes? I'm wanting to add tubes to my soft case. Currently using golf club seperator tubes and looking for anything better. Haven't looked at thin wall pvc yet either. What's this stuff you are using?

qcaseguy ..sounds good hehehe...

its paper tubes its use to
packaged l textile...its pretty hard...much better than the golf club thing. Regular PVC with the interior covered with pigskin leather is good for smaller cases 2x2 or 1x2...but may be too heavy for a 2x4 or larger cases

Nice case! What you want to get for the strap is a piece of rubber to put on the shoulder side of the shoulder pad and possibly a couple small, wide rubber bands or rubber O-rings to place on either side of the shoulder pad where it slides on the strap.

There is a commercial kit available called "bag stop" which you can ususally get at shoe and luggage repair shops and some luggage shops. You can also look for luggage straps at just about any department store that have the rubber non-slip pads on them and just buy the strap and use just the pad. I would do this if the strap was only a couple bucks.

Leaving the Suede side out will work in the short term but long term it will collect a lot of dirt and get pretty ragged and smooth out anyway. One way that you can combat this and have a nice pad with the suede side out is to use a lot of foam rubber and stagger it so that the thinnest part is directly in the middle. This way the weight will pull the pad into the shoulder and the design will sort of lock it in place.

Good luck and keep up the nice work.

qcaseguy...I can't quite figure out what it is you are saying about the kind of paper tubes you used. Can you elaborate? Where are they available?

Still looking.

There not available at any stores here in the Philippines, got mine from a garbage truck near a LEVIS manufacturing plant. Think of the tissue paper, theres a small brown paper tube that is used to hold the tissue paper, now multiply the thickness by 4 and increase the length to five feet....
