Who makes cases that have holes the same depth as the Giuseppe cases? I've found a lot of collectors/players that have custom joint protectors, their cues wont fit into most cases. Any suggestions??
I intend to spend ard $500 for the case.. Will be getting either a whitten or justis... But i just would like to hear some comments and reviews before deciding which to go for...
I have a Justis case. Can't be beat. the workmanship is excelent and i love the leather work. i have the 1 with the shark on it. looks great......my opinion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mike
I asked a guy called tony crosby who plays on the plays all over and he said dan whitten makes great cases and he was to buy one thats what he would get,
so i did and its the best case i have ever seen.
Instroke Cases have as much of a cavity in them as Guiseppe, Whitten etc.... They are made to accomodate up to 31.5 inches with an extra .5 inch cushion.
Choice between Justis and Whitten? Well it really depends on what look you are going for. The Justis is going to give you the elegant western look where as the Whitten is going to be the tuxedo look. Both cases are fairly well made and should last you practically forever with reasonable care.
Now I am going to shamelessly push Instroke. Instroke makes the best interior in the business. No other casemaker pays as much attention to the protection of your cue in a tube case than Instroke does. Instroke makes a line of handtooled cases that are visually stunning. So if outstanding protection coupled with artful looks is a factor then please consider Instroke as well as the other fine choices you have listed.
We also offer the Chas Clements Custom Instroke case as well. Chas is a world renowned master leatherworker. Chas will do a one-of-a-kind motive for any Instroke case. The case will be heavily detailed and scrupulously finished to produce a unique work-of -art. For example of Chas' work please refer to his website at www.chasclements.com or the Billiard Encyclopedia.
I have the tube parts of my custom case done. This case is going to weigh alot when I am done, more then any case I have ever seen (this can be a bad thing I guess, I dont really mind but I was surprised at the weight after I lined and put together the PVC tubes). As far as the protection goes though it is going to be awesome, I have a super soft leather lining the interior of the PVC tubes that is a nice fit (the cues slide in nicely and yet they have little room to move around). The leather is alot like suede and should never wear out like most lining materials, it will likely glaze in time like a worn shoe yet this wont effect the protection it affords the cue.
I am down to building the PVC outer wall of the case (I might swith to fiberglass, still thinking on this) which will then be attached to the bottom wooden section, and then the leather-work and the top section are all that is left. Still alot of work to do once I get the spare time to start working on it again.
While this case should look awesome and protect the cues I estimate it will weigh 20 pounds completely empty when it is done.
Chas' tooling starts at $500 and has virutally no upper limit except your imagination and your wallet. The last two Instroke/Clements cases, both 3x7's went for $800 and $750 respectively.
Normally we charge the price of a Cowboy model/size and add the price of Chas's tooling to it. The normal price of the last two 3x7's would have been $899 each and both were sold with a slight discount.
Generally we recommend that customers wishing to purchase an Instroke/Clements case call Chas directly and work with him to give him an idea of the motive and style desired. Chas will receive the parts from us and tool them according to your desires. We will assemble the case in our workshop and return the case to Chas for final finishing. Chas will use several finishing techniques to highlight the design and protect the tooling. After that you will receive your unique creation.
John, I read that you're planning to offer another model of case, something similar to what you make for Predator (love that case minus the logo -- apologies to Predator). If it's still in the works, do you have any idea when that case will be available?
