Why don't you do a survey and ask how many think buying one of his cues is a good "investment"

Now if you had simply stated you liked his cues and to give them a try, that would have been great. Once you start talking about investment, especially to people who may not know cues, that's where the bad info comes in. Dying or not making cues anymore does not raise the value unless you are talking Szamboti, Searing, Showman etc. And then only maybe. Most of those cues are priced pretty close to where they would be if something happened to the maker. Barry's prices are fairly cloes to Gus's for example.
