Cue conversion

Hi, this is my first post in this section. I would like to know if it's possible to modify a pool cue to play 3 cushion. The ferrule of my pool cue measures 1 inch, I have a Myron cue with 2 shafts. I was told that in order to improve my game the ferrule should be reduced to .430 inches. Since I have two shafts, and no money to buy a carom cue right now, I thought that it would be a good idea to do that. But before I make any move I want to consult the expert. One of my shafts measures 12.75 mm diameter and the other one 13.35mm. Your help will be much appreciate it, thank you.

Herman,

Welcome to the section - I'm guessing you're also new to 3C?

It is true that the typical 3C cue ferrule is much shorter than that
of a pool cue, but that is perhaps the least of the differences.

If you do a search on 'billiard cue' you should find threads that lay
out the variations.

Some highlights, 3C vs pool cues:

3C shafts have conical tapers
Butts are shorter and fatter.

This results in a stiffer cue.

IMHO reducing the length of your ferrule would do little, if any,
to improve your cue for 3C play.

Thank you very much pdcue, and yes, I am new to three cushion, I've been playing for only 4 months. And since my dad bought a pair of cues, one of his friends sold him a Myron cue with two shafts and a Cuetec Earl Strickland with a fiberglass shaft, we thought about reducing the ferrule. But since I'll be in France next semester, I would rather wait and buy a pair of cues overthere. In the meantime, we will continue playing with our pool cues.
