Not much as far as cue performance but considerably as far as human response or feel.
I play with a bocote wrap less Bob Frey with a Frey shaft and ivory ferrule. I also have played with 314, Z and 314-2 on the Frey. All Sniper tips. I like the Frey shaft the best because of the solid feel and feedback and not because of performance. I know dang well that the Predator shafts perform better but I cannot get past the feedback. I can?t stand the shaft vibrating like a tuning fork after certain shots even though I know that that is what it is designed to do. It feels hollow and it should since it is. I just can?t get past the hollow vibrating feel.
So I sacrifice performance for a solid feel. But I think the feel allows me to perform better. Until I miss a long shot with a little spin and then I second-guess myself. Then I think I should go back to a high deflection low squirt shaft. It is a vicious circle and it drives me crazy. So I decided to just stick with one shaft and learn how to hit with it over a period of years. I now have three Frey shafts that weigh and play around the same.
FYI the majority of A players in my area use a standard maple shaft. I also see more and more people using OB-1 which could be explained by the fact that I am located in DFW.
