Cue ID - A Little Help Please

Greetings,

If anyone can help me ID this pool cue I will certainly appreciate it. It is very well made with a brass joint and recessed shaft threads. Another unique feature is the points appear shorter than most cues having points. That and the brass joint make it somewhat unique and may help ID it? It rolls perfectly true together and apart and I would sure like to identify it.

I did see one a while back where the owner was also trying to ID it. It too had the brass joint and very similar sleeve work. One response he received was that it could be one of Bob Meucci’s early cues, before he began using his Meucci namesake, and that’s why it has no name or markings on it. While that would be terrific I seriously doubt it.

At any rate, please review the uploaded images and share your thoughts on the matter.

Any information will help - Even a rough idea about the era in which it was made is appreciated. I’m thinking 1960’s or 1970’s but it’s just a guess.

Thanks!

It is certainly made from a house cue. I would say under the wrap there is no splice and the butt rings were added to provide more length. The bumper looks like a Brunswick house cue bumper. Is the joint (Brass) tapered at all, or is like a tube?

Looks very Asian to me. 70’s seems about right. Painted over brass joint, nylon wrap, are an indication it’s not a very high end cue. The piloted joint is pretty good. It’s straight. If you like how it hits-cool.

Looks like the butt cap has some issues, finish looks like it was sprayed on improperly and the buttcap is off center. Maybe someone repaired it, if not the guy building it was not very good to detail.

Oh hey thanks for the quick response man! The brass part of the joint is not tappered at at all, it is straight-walled, looks like a tube.
In fact I miced the brass part of the joint at the base and at the threads and it is perfectly cylindrical.

So you think it was made from a house cue, maybe a Brunswick, because the points are short by comparison? That might make sense. Otherwise, why would you think it is made from a house cue? And if it (likely) is made from a house cue, there is a splice under the wrap? I would think that a splice would be difficult to end up with true butt section? No?

I'm only into for $15 but it shoots nice. Not sure what I will do with it though. I collect Joss West cues and I play with a Meucci Gambler 2 with a red dot shaft. I just think it's a cool stick I guess.

Thanks for you input, it is much appreciated! Keep it coming...

Thanks for responding Fatboy! So you think the brass joint is painted over because it looks like there is a chip on the edge of it? Like the paint is chipped? And how can you tell the wrap is nylon and not linen? Just curious.

Yeah the fit and finish on the sleeve / rings is pretty miserable. The OD of the white rings are notably greater than the OD of the rest if the sleeve. You can really feel it when you run your hand fingers over it.

And yeah it could be Asian. I just didn’t think many were coming from Asia in the 70’s.

Your input is appreciated – thanks again!

OK, thanks for the input! Yeah like I said in another response the fit and finsih of the butt section is not very good. The butt cap is centered however. It rolls perfectly together and apart.

Thanks for chiming in!

Oh now I see what you seeing in the one image where it looks like the butt cap is off center. That's the camera angle.

Yes the chip tells the story.

The wrap looks like nylon or linin/nylon blend. It’s not pure linin or linen. Lol Just going off experience. I’ve been around cues for years and own a few.

For $15 you’re doing great. It’s straight you said. If it doesn’t rattle or buzz and hits good for you-can’t beat that.
